Chapter 1 covers basic backflow hydraulics, Chapter 2 covers the different types of cross-connections, and the degree of hazard. Chapter 3 describes in detail how to apply protection and to prevent backflow using airgaps and backflow prevention devices. Chapter 3 will also explain how the devices work and will cover proper installation guidelines. Chapter 4 will cover the safety, gauge care, repair and maintenance considerations, etc. A hands-on testing work shop, held each afternoon, will allow students to practice test procedures on the reduced pressure principal assembly, double check valve assembly, and pressure vacuum breaker . Test benches with working backflow preventers and differential pressure gauges will be used. ASSE test procedures will be reviewed and will be taught in the classroom and then put into practice in the Wet Lab. A written exam will be given at the conclusion of the course to evaluate the students. Students must also demonstrate proficiency in testing assemblies covered in the course.
